About SkillHints

SkillHints helps people choose a sensible first course, and a sensible next one, without spending hours comparing tabs.

Why SkillHints exists

There has never been more good, affordable teaching online. That is also the problem. Search for “learn programming” and you get thousands of courses, each claiming to be the best place to start, with prices, certificates and prerequisites that are hard to compare. Many people end up picking whatever a friend chose, or whatever was advertised most, and then quit when it does not suit them.

SkillHints takes a different approach: a small catalogue of well-regarded courses, described honestly, matched to your interests, level, goals, time and budget, with the reasoning shown.

How the catalogue is curated

The catalogue currently has 20 courses from providers such as Harvard’s CS50, freeCodeCamp, The Odin Project, Kaggle Learn, Google, Microsoft Learn, Cisco Networking Academy, HubSpot Academy and Y Combinator. Courses are chosen because they are established, beginner-accessible where they claim to be, and clear about what they teach. Free and free-to-audit options are included alongside a few paid programs, and every listing is labeled so you can tell them apart.

SkillHints is independent. No provider pays to be listed, and listings are not ranked by commercial arrangements.

How course details are checked

Every course title, link, access type and certificate rule was checked against the provider’s own website. The most recent full review was in October 2026. Where a detail could not be confirmed, such as a course length or a completion credential, we leave it out or say so rather than guess.

Help keep it accurate

Providers change prices, certificate rules and links often. If you notice something out of date, please email ehtyalee1919@gmail.com with the course name and what has changed. Course suggestions are welcome too.
